Rejoice if you are a Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited mobile customer, as you can connect freely with your family and friends and without incurring any ‘roaming charges’ while travelling in any part of India.
The government owned telecom operator BSNL has extended its free all India roaming offer for both prepaid and postpaid mobile subscribers further by one year. The offer will come into effect from 15th June 2016 and the free nationwide roaming will be available until June 2017.
As announced last year by Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, the free national roaming offer provides BSNL mobile customers with free incoming calls while they are on roaming in any part of India. The offer is applicable all over India including in MTNL service areas – Mumbai and Delhi.
BSNL had effectively utilised the free national roaming offer to grab more customers from other telecom operators through mobile number portability (MNP). As a result, the government operator was able to maintain the steady growth throughout the year.
