Essential, the company from the Android co-founder Andy Rubin has unveiled its first Android smartphone – the Essential Phone (Essential PH-1). The mobile boast some of the most-wanted feature you ever dreamed of, like the edge-to-edge QHD display, industries powerful Snapdragon 835 SoC, dual camera, 128GB storage and 4G VoLTE.

Design and Performance

Let’s first dig into the design part, before going to the inside of Essential Phone. The mobile is crafted using titanium and ceramic that adds great strength, which can even withstand accidental drops. On the front, you will find the stunning 5.71-inch Quad HD edge-to-edge 2560 x 1312 display with an aspect ratio of 19:10. There is only a tiny bezel around the front screen like the Xiaomi Mi Mix. At the top, you will find a small space for the front camera.

Under the hood, the Essential Phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 540, 710MHz GPU. To store all your media content, the mobile carries 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage.

Camera

Talking about camera, the Essential Phone comes with a dual camera setup on the rear. You get a 13-megapixel Dual RGB sensor and a monochrome sensor. This combination offers better low-light photos. The camera also features f/1.85 lens, Hybrid Auto Focus combing contrast, phase detect and IR laser assist focus.

On the front, Essential Phone carries an 8-megapixel camera featuring f/2.20 fixed hyperfocal lens. The best part of selfie camera is that you can shoot 4K videos at 30fps.

In addition, the company is also packing a 360-degree camera as an accessory. It’s touted to be world’s smallest 360-degree personal camera and can be clipped to the device. It’s essentially a dual 12-megapixel camera with fisheye imagers, f1.8 aperture and can shoot 360 degree UHD videos.

Connectivity

Coming to connectivity, Essential Phone supports 4G LTE, 3G and 2G networks. In addition you will also get Bluetooth 5.0 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac with MIMO, NFC, and GPS. The mobile avoids the headphone jack altogether for the USB Type-C port. The company will ship the device with a dongle for connecting your old wired headphones. The mobile will be fueled by a 3040mAh battery with support for fast charging. You also get a fingerprint scanner placed at the back of the device.

Finally to the pricing, the Essential Phone is priced at $699 or around Rs 45,197. The extra accessory, the 360-degree camera gets a price tag of Rs $199 or Rs 12,876. Currently, the device is available exclusively in the United States.
