Amazon India has forayed into an entirely new segment, online medicines delivery. The e-commerce giant has launched Amazon Pharmacy in India, which as the name suggest would allow customers to order prescription medication, home medical supplies, supplements, ayurvedic medicines and healthcare devices, among others.
Initially, Amazon Pharmacy will be available to customers in Bengaluru city and that too in limited pin codes. However, the company is looking to further expand its service to new areas and cities in the coming months.
“We are launching Amazon Pharmacy in Bangalore allowing customers to order prescription-based medication in addition to over-the-counter medicines, basic health devices and Ayurveda medication from certified sellers. This is particularly relevant in present times as it will help customers meet their essential needs while staying safe at home,” commented an Amazon India spokesperson.
As always, ordering medicines from Amazon is an easy task. You could order home medical supplies and equipment, healthcare packages, prescription medication, ayurvedic medicines and healthcare devices, among others.
With Amazon Pharmacy, the e-commerce giant will defiantly put a dent in the market share of established players like NetMeds, 1mg, PharmEasy and Medlife. According to Frost & Sullivan, the online medicine market in India is expected to touch $3.7 billion by 2022.
This is the second major expansion to a new market segment by Amazon in India. The e-commerce giant has recently forayed into online food delivery service and also expanded its online groceries shop Amazon pantry to more Indian cities.
