Tired of ordering through Swiggy and Zomato or run out of offers on those food delivering apps? then Amazon is here for the rescue. The e-commerce giant has joined the online food delivery business and started Amazon Food in India.

Currently, serving in selected parts of Bangalore, Amazon Food offers customers a choice of food menu from local restaurants and cloud kitchens. According to the company, it only allows restaurants and cloud kitchens in its platform that passes its high hygiene certification bar. Thus adhering to the highest standards of safety, which is necessary during the pandemic lockdown.

Customers have been telling us for some time that they would like to order prepared meals on Amazon in addition to shopping for all other essentials,” commented an Amazon spokesperson. “We also recognize that local businesses need all the help they can get. We are launching Amazon Food in select Bangalore pin codes allowing customers to order from handpicked local restaurants and cloud kitchens that pass our high hygiene certification bar. We are adhering to the highest standards of safety to ensure our customers remain safe while having a delightful experience,” the spokesperson added.

Amazon Food delivery service launched in India

Saving some space and uncluttering your app drawer, there is no separate app to be installed for Amazon Food. You could find the Amazon Food section in their existing Amazon India app. It’s currently live to customers in four-pin codes in Bengaluru – (Hoodi) 560048, (Marathahalli) 560037, (Whitefield) 560066, and Bellandur (560103). We could expect it to go live in more location in the coming weeks.

Amazon India forays to food delivery business would bring challenges to Swiggy and Zomato. Recently, we’re seeing a duopoly from these two companies, as Uber Eats India business was sold to Zomato. There are also a dozen small food delivery services operating in different cities (especially in metros) across India who would face the heat.
