India’s largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel has launched ‘Airtel Zero‘ that let its customers to access selected mobile apps and services without incurring any data charges or say, we can use certain mobile apps for free without being charged for the data usage.

Airtel Zero’ – an open marketing platform that will allow customers to access mobile applications at zero data charges.

So who pays for your data usage? It’s the app developers or service provider who will pay for customers’ data charges. Through this platform app developers can attract new potential users to their app, revive interest of dormant customers and finally increase retention. For example, if Flipkart joins this program, Airtel customers can freely browse and make purchases from Flipkart mobile app without incurring any data charges on browsing the products. For Flipkart, it will bring more customers to its platform, can better retain them and mainly increase the sales.

App developers first need to register with Airtel Zero platform (by mailing to [email protected]) to give customers data free access to their apps. Airtel will then inform its potential customers about these apps. Interested customers will download and access these app at zero data charges, even at zero mobile balance.
