It’s time for excitement, yet don’t get too excited. Thanks to Reliance Jio and BSNL, India’s largest telecom operator Bharti Airtel has updated its FUP or Fair Usage Policy on data usage. The telco has essentially enabled unlimited data usage for its prepaid subscribers even after they hit their daily FUP data limit. Don’t get too excited as the speed after your daily data limit will be dropped to 128 Kbps.

Let’s dig deep into the fine print of Airtel’s unlimited data. Normally, with most of the prepaid mobile plans, there is a daily data limit or FUP limit. Once you hit this daily data cap, you may need to either wait until the clock hits midnight 12 AM to get it reset or recharge with a data pack. But now with the new Airtel terms change, the telco will allow free unlimited data usage even after you used up all your daily data quota as per your mobile plan.

However, the only issue out here is that the speed would be reduced to 128 Kbps. Yet, it’s way better to have some internet connection to WhatsApp, other than getting cut off from the internet.

Airtel Unlimited Data even after FUP on Prepaid Mobile Plans

For example, Airtel’s Rs 199 prepaid mobile plan comes with 1.4GB data per day. Usually, once you hit this daily data limit, internet get’s cut off. Now you need to either wait till 12 AM or recharge with a separate data pack. But now, Airtel will allow you to use data at a reduced speed of 128 Kbps even after the completion of your mobile plans daily data limit. Thus making data usage truly unlimited.

Airtel Unlimited Data on Prepaid Mobile Plans
  • Free unlimited data usage post the completion of daily data FUP limit.
  • Data speed capped at 128 Kbps for rest of the day.
  • Enabled for all prepaid mobile plans of Rs 199 and above.

The new changes to Airtel’s prepaid mobile plans FUP policy have already come into effect. All prepaid mobile plans of Rs 199 and above will now come under this new FUP policy. It’s also applicable to both new and existing prepaid mobile subscribers.

It should be noted that currently only Reliance Jio and BSNL are the only other two telcos who are offering mobile plans with unlimited data usage. They offer free unlimited data usage after the daily FUP limit at a reduced speed.
