Samsung has finally launched their Gear VR headset, developed by Oculus in India via Flipkart for Rs 8200. The Headset launch was accompanied by the launch of two variants of the  Gear S2 smartwatch. The VR headset weighs 318 grams and has dimensions of 201.9×116.4×92.6mm and will give stiff competition to the Lenovo ANT VR headset launched recently.

Samsung Gear VR is compatible with high end phones in the galaxy line, including Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+ and also the Note 5 with no news on support for other Samsung phones or other phones announced (cough.. Lenovo ANT- VR). The headset connects and charges via a micro usb port. It also features accelerometer, gyroscope and a proximity sensor. Although not as portable as a Google cardboard, it has soft foam on the inside and also features elastic velcro straps.

The headset and smartwatches  are available from Flipkart and popular retail chains like Croma and Reliance Digital. With affordable quality VR headsets coming in, the virtual reality platform is really heating up. Watch this space for more virtual reality news.
