We got a clear cut reply! The new entrant to the Indian telecom sector Reliance Jio is lashing out again, against the telecom industry body Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

In a new statement from Reliance Jio, the operator called the recent statement from COAI Director General Sh. Rajan S. Mathews surreptitious, defamatory, and an act of contempt of the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and devoid of any merit.

The operator further accuses COAI of skewing regulation in favour of incumbent operators, giving them de facto and de jure control over COAI to promote their vested interests. And this all happening with the active involvement of COAI Director General.

While RJIL was indeed aware of the extent COAI’s regulations at the time of becoming a member, RJIL cannot be restrained to raise its genuine and fair concerns, especially and more so, when the incumbent dominant operators are colluding to use the very same COAI regulations against RJIL to promote their anticompetitive activities.” said Jio in an statement.

Reliance Jio responds to COAIs ‘Back Door Operator’ statement

On the allegation of COAI calling Reliance Jio a ‘Back Door Operator’, the operator says the statement damages its reputation and show disrespect to the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court.

Reliance Jio has already put Rajan S. Mathews on notice demanding an apology for issuing the press statement. In case should they not act upon the operator will pursue legal action.

Reliance Jio recently accuses COAI to be biased to the top three Indian telecom operators Airtel, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular. It demanded a complete overhaul of the industry body.

In response, the COAI called Jio’s allegations are misrepresentations, misinterpretations of law and facts. Going one step further the industry body called Reliance Jio a back-door operator.
