Did you know? We Indians prefer to shop online through mobile apps instead of traditional desktop and mobile websites/stores. This is aided by the convenience and easy to browse option offered by this shopping apps.

Around 42 percent of the total respondents in a recent study conducted by CouponRani, preferred the mobile app to the mobile website for convenient online shopping. But around the same amount of respondents prefer Desktop to find coupons, deals and to compare price.

It’s to be noted that India is now the third largest country in terms of smartphone usage and got around 8 million mobile app users. With the upcoming 4G revolution, the mobile internet users in India is expected to grow at an exponential rate.

Interesting facts from the study:

  • Men do more online shopping than females as 59 percent of the total respondents were males.
  • More than 44 percent of the total respondents fall under the age group of 26 to 40 years and almost 33% of the respondents are under 25 years or younger.

  • Around 84 percent of the total respondents says they have/will shop online via mobile and only 15% said they never do shopping via mobile.
  • 42 percent of the total respondents prefer mobile shopping apps compared to mobile website and only 39% preferred shopping on desktop websites. According to the respondents, Mobile app was more convenient, easy and faster when compared to mobile website
  • 79 percent respondents found mobile app much faster when compared to mobile website and 71 percent claimed that mobile app is better in terms of browsing and convenience.
  • 73 percent of the respondents found Mobile app much easier and user-friendly in displaying the products with all the features and descriptions than seen on the mobile website.

  • Around 43 percent of the respondents prefer the desktop website as an easy means to find coupons and deals and also to compare the price of products.
  • Flipkart ranks the top spot on online shopping websites with 61 percent support, followed by Amazon India with 28% support and Snapdeal with 26% support.
