With so many threats present in the world, it’s always better to save ourselves from such threats as you will have to secure the wireless network connection from the hackers and attackers so that you will be safe and don’t land up in any sorts of problems. Also, the users need to ensure that some of the steps which we will be looking out in the due course of the article. There are not many applications and tweaks which you need to deploy in to safeguard your Wireless network but let’s see how you can do so, one such simple thing what you can do is to enable the WPA instead of the WEP encryption. For all those who are not sure of what you will have to do to secure in the network, let’s see on how you can do the same.

Secure Router and Wireless Network
First up go to “Network Connections” and simply search for the Wireless networks which are in range, you will get a list of networks which are all active in that region as shown below, in the list itself you will see that in which network you are connected and is a secured network or an untrusted and non-secured network.
If the given network is secure, you will have to check whether it has a WPA or WEP type of encryption method, just simply right click on the network, go to Properties and then click to find the “Encryption Type” to check with the same.
Note that just by changing the encryption type will not change the properties as you will have to change some other parameters too which we will be seeing in the below steps.

Access Wireless Router
You will have to ensure that the wireless router is accessed which can be done in most of the cases, just simply key in the 192.168.0.1 in the web link area which is nothing but the address bar after which you will be able to see that the username and password details which needs to be entered and which basically depends on your router provider, for more details you would either need to contact the ISP or with the customer care number of the wireless router or sometimes you can also get this information in the software manual guide.

Secure the wireless network setup

  • Now, once you have logged into the router, just visit the wireless tab after which you will be able to see the security tab, just click on the same and after this next up you will have to choose the authentication type as WPA and then just enter in the KEY which will be the password to use the network which can be either given to selected people or you can keep it as preferably secret to prevent the misuse of the wireless network which should be the prime motive.
  • Now, after setting the pass key, find the Save option and click on it to save the settings which are set, after this just choose the Check option to check whether the set pin pass code is working successfully or not, if not then you will have to again follow the procedure. Your wireless network should appear as “security-enabled wireless network (WPA)”.

Now, search the networks, double click on the network and enter in the details of Pass code or the password to check with the same. It’s always recommended to not to use the default passcode which comes factory setted as this may give way for easy hack or easy path to get in. So, set a password which is easy for you and difficult for others to crack or get in.
