Back in 2013, Google India first launched the Google Hindi Input App for Android devices allowing Indian users to type messages, update their social networks or compose emails in Hindi on their Android phone and tablets with ease. Fast forward to 2015, Google has updated the keyboard app to “Google Indic Keyboard” and now supports eleven Indian regional languages including Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu (apart from English).

Google Indic Keyboard brings the essence of your own native language on your Android phones and tablets. Using the Indic Keyboard one can easily type messages, update their social networks or compose emails in their own native language. It supports different modes of input like –

  • Indic Keyboard Transliteration mode – where the output is in your native language by typing out the pronunciation using English letter.
  • Native keyboard mode – where you type in your native language itself.
  • Hinglish mode – It’s a hybrid mode which will suggest both English and Hinglish terms when you choose Hindi as an input language.
  • Handwriting mode – where you can directly write on your phone screen using finger or stylus. (Currently its supports on Hindi input)
Google Indic Keyboard for Android - Now supports 11 Indian language

If you have already installed the older Google Hindi Input App, then you can update it to the new Google Indic Keyboard App or for new users, can download the Keyboard app directly from Google Play store. One can active the keyboard by going to “Keyboard & Input method” under Language & Input settings on your phone.
