Amazon is a company that is known for its exhaustive library of e-books. The makers of Kindle realized that only e-books won’t suffice the needs of consumers today when they are competing in an Android-rich tablet market. As they say, “necessity is the mother of invention,”- Amazon Kindle Fire was born. It was made by amalgamating Android technology and e-ink reader. Owing to the huge success of Kindle Fire, Amazon took a step forward and introduced Kindle Fire HD in two screen sizes having more pixels for crisper text and images.
This tablet is equipped with acrisp screen, excellent pair of speakers, good battery backup, excellent voice narrator and access to Amazon store for free. Looking at the design and built of the tablet, one can easily mistake it for any other Android tablet. However, it can be differentiated on the basis of a dark grey body and a screen with black bezels. The back of the tablet has a soft touch rubberized finish that gives a firm grip to the hand. The tablet appears to have a unibody design as it is surrounded by bezel from all sides. The dimensions are 7.6” X 5.4 “X 0.4 “and weighs about 395 grams.
It has a 7inch IPS screen with pixel dimension of 1280X800. The text is legible in a normally lit room and the device has a glossy finish. The company has fused the touch panel and the LCD panel into a single glass sheet to improve clarity by avoiding the air gap between them. There is a gorilla glass to protect the screen against scratches. It is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz OMAP 4460 CPU with a PowerVR SGX540 GPU clocked at 307 MHz. The tablet works seamlessly while playing demanding games. There is no microSD card slot, so one has to depend on the internal 16 GB of memory storage and 1 GB RAM. To receive amazing video streaming result, the Wi-Fi is supported by dual antennas and dual-band.
It runs on Android 4.0.3 and Amazon successfully hides the stock Android interface and creates its own fluid UI. With a screen having HD pixels, the text and image look sharp and have good legibility.
One of the most enticing facts about this tablet is that it uses Ivona’sSalli voice, female voice with an American accent to as a text-to-voice engine to read out the book loud to the user. The multimedia performance of the tablet is par excellent with its dual stereo speakers and it is a delight to watch movies on this tablet.
Overall, the tablet has sharp, warm screen, unmatched media library and a highly streamlined UI. However, the online stores and app store don’t function as per demand.
