That’s really some breaking story in the morning, Google got a new parent company called Alphabet, an umbrella for Google and other small, big Google companies. Larry Page becomes the CEO of Alphabet along with Sergey Brin, as President. And for a proud moment for all Indians, product and engineering boss, Sundar Pichai becomes the CEO of almighty Google.

Alphabet (abc.xyz) will be a collection of companies, including Google, YouTube, X labs (that’s building some moonshot projects like driverless cars, Google Glass, Project Ara etc), Google Ventures and Google Life Sciences (Google contact lenses). So virtually, Google will still do all the things we think of as Google’s main business, but now in a bit slimmed down mode.

“What is Alphabet? Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our main Internet products contained in Alphabet instead. Fundamentally, we believe this allows us more management scale, as we can run things independently that aren’t very related. Alphabet is about businesses prospering through strong leaders and independence.” said Larry Page, CEO on Google official blog.

A for Alphabet becomes the new parent company of G for Google, Sundar Pichai as Google CEO

With Larry Page move up to become the CEO of Alphabet, Indian-born Sundar Pichai, who is currently heading product and engineering for the entire Internet business, been moved up to the CEO of Google (slightly slimmed down Google).

“Sundar has been saying the things I would have said (and sometimes better!) for quite some time now, and I’ve been tremendously enjoying our work together. He has really stepped up since October of last year, when he took on product and engineering responsibility for our Internet businesses. Sergey and I have been super excited about his progress and dedication to the company. And it is clear to us and our board that it is time for Sundar to be CEO of Google. I feel very fortunate to have someone as talented as he is to run the slightly slimmed down Google and this frees up time for me to continue to scale our aspirations.” commented Larry Page.

For business enthusiasts, Google will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alphabet. Alphabet Inc. will replace Google Inc. as the publicly-traded entity and all shares of Google will be transformed one-to-one into shares of Alphabet and continues to trade under the GOOG and GOOGL symbols on Nasdaq.
